The west highland white terrier, or as we affectionately know the Westies, is a small fluffy breed of dogs. They are good companion dogs and belong to a breed of trained hunters. The Westies originally belong to the west Scotland highlands, its name standing for the literal meaning of its breed color, type and place of origin.

The little creatures stand at 10 to 11 inches measured at the shoulder, with dark beautiful piercing eyes, and a compact body, with a carrot-shaped wagging tail. With all the charm, the  Westie’s looks look irresistible. The westies are true working terriers of gameness and courage. Bred to hunt, the westies are surprisingly strong and tough. They have a soft and fluffy touch. Thanks to their faithfulness and keen intelligence, Westies train nicely with time and patience.

The Westie Rescue of North Texas is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of abused, abandoned, neglected, homeless and surrendered West Highland White Terriers, or the Westies. The Westie Rescue North Texas is a non-profit organization that aims to provide the rescued westies with the proper attention, care, and required medical treatment, including spaying/neutering and vaccination until a permanent home can be found for them. Through a team of actively committed volunteers, WRNT also aims to drive education campaigns amongst the public regarding puppy mills and responsible dog ownership, including vaccination, spaying/neutering, training and humane care of the Westies and other pets. All donations made to WRNT are used exclusively in the furtherance of their rescue missions.

Adoption Process

The adoption process from Westie Rescue North Texas is brief and shouldn’t take any longer than around 2-4 weeks, depending on the availability of your choice and volunteers around your location. The adoption process can be summarized as follows:

  • Firstly, pick your favorite pet from those available and listed on the website.
  • Next, find the link adoption application link, and fill in your particulars, and interest.
  • Your application would then be submitted for review.
  • Before the next step, you would need to agree for a Home Safety Visit by one of their volunteer for a check on house fencing conditions. You would totally understand that this is done to ensure your beloved pet stays safe at home.
  • Once all the references are checked, the application is furthered for the next steps including some contract agreements.
  • If all’s well, the adoption match is complete!
